6 Ways to Care for Your Skin During Summer: Melasma, Freckles, and SPF
Summer skin problems include freckles and melasma. Here are six ways to take care of your skin, from using SPF regularly to using specific skin treatments.
Your skin care routine and requirements will change as the seasons change.
It can be hard to keep your skin protected, hydrated and glowing as the temperatures rise.
Warmer temperatures cause the skin’s sebaceous glands to produce more oil to compensate. The skin can appear oilier, but it may also feel parched and dehydrated.
It is not a good combination for those with acne-prone or congested skin. The dehydrated cells can get stuck in your pores, causing even more spots.
This combination of sweat and bacteria can cause what I call summer acne.
Summer skincare can be difficult for those who are sun sensitive, as well as people with freckles, melanomas and other skin pigmentations.
Healthista spoke with Sara Waterman Senior Aesthetician of Young LDN who revealed 6 ways to care for our skin before summer.
#1 The SPF is a must
Freckles may look cute when you are young, but they can be a sign that your skin is too hot.
Applying SPF to your skin will help you achieve a natural tan, which is a way of protecting yourself from the sun. This will prevent any damage that will be visible in future years.
I recommend Heliocare SPF 50. This multi-level protective barrier creates a safe shield against UV and blue HEV light from lighting and mobile devices.
They come in beautiful colors to give you a little extra coverage at the beach.
#2 Don’t over-exfoliate
It is important to avoid over-exfoliating the skin before sunbathing on hot days or during a long holiday.
The upper layer of skin that is dead can be used as an extra form of protection. Also, apply a broad spectrum UV protection generously.
Use a gentle exfoliating cleaner a few times a week
Avoid harsh exfoliants or retinoids when you are exfoliating during the summer months. Use a gentle exfoliating cleaner a few times a week. I recommend IS clinical cleaning complex, which contains a mild mix of plant-based AHA/BHA.
Hyaluronic Acid is a great option for a third treatment.
It’s a great time to begin using hyaluronic acids if you haven’t already!
It’s a water-based substance that is found in the skin. It can instantly give your skin a glow, and plump up fine lines.
Keep your skin hydrated and prevent premature aging.
I recommendCircadia vitamin C reversal serum. This lightweight HA contains a water-soluble Vitamin C. It is perfect for oily skin and will not cause breakouts like some other vitamin c.
Vitamin C is the primary antioxidant that the skin uses. It is also helpful in protecting against the sun, as it neutralises any harmful UV rays that make their way through your SPF protection.
Treat yourself to a spa treatment
You can improve your skin’s appearance in the summer with some hydrating beauty products.
I recommend The Young LDN Hydrating Dermabrasion. It starts with a gentle scrub to unclog pores and clear the skin’s pathways, allowing for deeper penetration of ingredients. Then, you can choose a mask that will either brighten the skin or exfoliate it.
After the treatment, the skin is infused with a variety of hyaluronic mists and skin hydrating sprays. Then, you can relax under the medical grade LED lights, which help to increase cell turnover and penetration. This leaves your skin soft, smooth and hydrated. Ideal for a glow after a holiday to refresh and clear the skin.
#5 Cryotherapy: Boost your hydration.
The beauty benefits of cryotherapy are also increasing in popularity. It can improve your skin’s appearance as you approach summer.
Cryotherapy can also boost your skin’s hydration.
Cryotherapy uses extremely low temperatures to rejuvenate the skin. It creates a microcirculation that helps reduce inflammation, removes puffiness, brightens dull faces, and shapes cheekbones.
Cryotherapy can also boost your skin’s hydration. I would recommend using the Cryoball every day and infusing your skin with a serum containing hyaluronic acids like the Circadia’s vitamin C reversal serum, Image ormedic Bio peptide, or Dermaceutics HAL, available at .
Massage the Cryoball into the skin for deep infusion.
#6 Invest in pigmentation suppression products
Pigmentation is a problem for many people during the summer.
Melasma is a sun lover. Although summer may not be ideal for treatment, it can be prevented by preventing its flare-up in advance of warmer weather.
With a SPF and twice-daily application of the pigment suppression product, you can prevent darkening.
This product is a multi-fictional product that blocks the chemical messengers (skin pigments) which leads to excess melanin production. You must be consistent in your application and begin 2-3 weeks before exposure to sunlight for best results.
In the sun, avoid using brightening products that contain heavy exfoliants such as vitamin A. They can have the opposite effect and should be used only after sun exposure.
