10 Nutrient-Rich Foods That Enhance Male Fertility
Infertile men’s testicles are still healthy according to new research. Isabelle Obert, fertility expert and nutritionist, reveals 10 diets that can increase male fertility.
Have fertility issues? According to a new study reported by the Telegraph, the sperm of men who are infertile is just as healthy when it is found in their testicles. When it leaves the body through a series ducts, however, it is damaged. Researchers think that something strange and toxic happens along this path.
Men can boost their fertility by changing their diet, but more research is needed.
It is important to have a healthy diet, both in terms of what you eat and what you avoid. The research on sperm viability and quality is gaining a lot of attention. It is believed that quality is more important than the quantity of sperm. Men with low sperm counts can still be fertile, if their sperm are in good condition.
It is believed that sperm in good condition can make men fertile even if their sperm counts are low.
The sperm is especially vulnerable to free radicals, also known as oxidative stresses. Free radicals, which are unstable molecules linked to cellular destruction, are high in sperm viability and function. Poor nutrition, smoking, chemicals in the environment and poor detoxification are all causes.
The sperm is protected by antioxidants in the sperm. If this system of natural protection is compromised, it can have a devastating effect. It is therefore essential to eliminate potential causes of free-radical damage as well as eat a high antioxidant diet.
Caffeine and processed meats can decrease fertility
8 foods you should eat more…
1. TOMATOES
Tomatoes contain a high amount of lycopene, an antioxidant. Lycopene has been studied in relation to male fertility. It was found to improve sperm motility, activity, and structure. Lycopene can be found in tomatoes that have been cooked or processed. Use tomato puree to make a tasty dish and add some olive oil to help absorb this fat-soluble antioxident.
2. WALNUTS
Walnuts contain omega 3 fatty acid and, according to a recent study by the Society for the Study of Reproduction, eating around 75g of nuts (about 2.5 oz) per day is associated with improved sperm motility and morphology. You can add them to salads to give them a little crunch or eat them as a healthy mid-afternoon snack to manage your blood sugar.
3. PUMPKIN SEEDS
Pumpkin Seeds contain zinc, which is essential for sperm production and testosterone. Also, they are rich in other minerals and vitamins. For maximum nutritional value, choose organic, raw pumpkin seeds and sprinkle them on cereals, salads, and smoothies.
4. Lentils
Lentils contain a high amount of folate, which is essential for both male and female fertility. Men who consume less folate in their diet are more likely to have abnormalities of the chromosomes of their sperm. Lentils also provide a good source of fibre and protein for vegetarians. Try Asian spiced grilled cod with lentils. It’s a tasty and nutritious combination.
5. Blueberries
Blueberries contain powerful antioxidants that fight inflammation, including quercetin. Quercetin has been shown to maintain healthy sperm parameters, including motility and quality. Resveratrol is also known to increase sperm motility. Add a handful of fresh blueberries to your daily diet. They are delicious in smoothies or on top of Greek yogurt with some high-quality granola.
6. WATER
Drinking enough water is one of the easiest ways to improve sperm quality and count. Water is the main component of sperm, so increasing your liquid intake can increase sperm production and ejaculate. Be sure to drink more water, as caffeine is diuretic. Soft drinks can also lower sperm count.
Pomegranate increases testosterone levels, improves the quality of sperm and boosts sexual drive
7. POMEGRANATES
The high antioxidant content of pomegranate is why it has been called a superfood for so long. It can help improve circulation, lower the risk of heart disease and reduce inflammation. Researchers have found that pomegranate increases testosterone levels, improves the quality of sperm and boosts mood and sex desire in both men and women. In a Turkish study, rats that were fed pomegranate fruit juice every day for seven weeks produced more antioxidants to protect the sperm’s vulnerable fatty acids from oxidation. Drink one glass of 100% pomegranate every day.
8. DARK CHOCOLATE
Dark Chocolate contains a high amount of L-arginine, which has been shown to increase sperm motility and count. Dark chocolate is the best. Try the bittersweet dark 85 per cent chocolate.
2 Things to Give Up
1. CAFFEINE
A study in the United States found that, although studies show that caffeine has no adverse effect on sperm counts, sperm swimming ability or sperm shape, higher caffeine consumption may reduce the likelihood of a clinical pregnancy when IVF. Try to limit (both partners’) coffee consumption to just one decent cup per day.
2. DIET DRINKS
Aspartame, a sweetener commonly used in diet beverages, is associated with sperm damage and a lower sperm number. Do not buy the full-fat version as it contains more sugar and studies show that men who drink soft drinks in general tend to have lower counts of sperm.
