Are you excited for the sixth season of the hit Netflix series Selling sunset? We are.
We Healthistas love Netflix binges, so we were thrilled to have the chance to ask Vanessa Villela how she achieves such a good.
Vanessa Villela, who has been in the spotlight since she was just four years old, has starred in everything from soap operas to Netflix’s Selling Sunrise.
The 45-year-old Mexican-American actress, who is now a real estate agent, has tried every diet, supplement and exercise in the fitness industry. She’s experienced weight gain, hormone imbalance, and more.
Vanessa claims that after many trials and errors she has finally discovered the secret to creating a perfect recipe for a toned and healthy body.
Secret #1: Managing Stress and Hormones
Stress causes our bodies to release cortisol, which can cause overeating, fatigue and excessive drinking. Even trying to lose weight may have the opposite result.
Vanessa Villela says, “I wouldn’t recognize myself if I looked in the mirror.”
“My face is first to gain weight.” I believe that the stress from wanting to lose a lot of weight prevented me from losing weight and regaining my health.
The hours in the television industry are long and it is hard to keep a regular routine. Vanessa claims that being on TV hasn’t changed her perception of body image.
Vanessa claims that she doesn’t work out regularly
Vanessa was a child who never worked out regularly because of her 15-hour workday.
Vanessa says, ‘I was exhausted from work, and the energy of the character [from the soap opera] was so intense, that my cortisol, or stress hormone, was super high. This caused a lot problems with my thyroid, hormones, and everything else.
“I don’t even know how many pounds I gained, but it was a lot.” You can see that I went from a size 00 to a 3 or 4 in a matter of months.
Vanessa claims that she has not seen any results after a year of spinning classes for crossfit. Vanessa wanted to heal her body naturally. She discovered kundalini meditation, which combines mantras, breath work, and movement.

Vanessa says, “I just accept it for what it is. I will focus on releasing the stress. I have started to lose weight again.”
I think we sometimes don’t put ourselves first. It’s difficult to set aside time to get up early. We all lead very busy lives.
Secret #2: Intermittent fasting
Vanessa says that intermittent fasting is the key to everything. It helps with my metabolism, skin health, gut health and energy levels.
You might be wondering what an intermittent fasting program looks like.
I don’t have a strict schedule, so there is no 11am-8pm. I’ll wait up to 14 hours if I eat my last meal, say at 9pm.
Vanessa advises that if you’re like me, and don’t feel like waiting for lunch will do the trick, she begins her day by drinking celery juice or a cup of coffee. She does this until she has completed her 14-15 hours fasting.
Vanessa suggests that drinking hot water without lemon, rather than with it, is one of your healthiest options.

She stresses that the key to curbing cravings is to listen to your body.
Vanessa explains, “I will sometimes have a protein shake with superfoods and fruit in it. If I feel like having a burger, I’ll just have the burger sans bun. I do what my body tells me to but I always make sure I’m doing it healthy.”
